Our Story

A need for something new.

CØDA Ensemble, founded by Liam Cunningham in Fall 2018, is a chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance and education of music, with an emphasis on diverse programming; fostering new music with several season commissions, and prominently featuring underrepresented composers and works. We remain dedicated to allowing students of all backgrounds, races, genders, and creeds access to contemporary music education, encouraging and leading hands-on musical concerts and events.

Cunningham, an advocate for the promotion of contemporary music, is working to curate a new concert experience for audiences of all ages. This is largely accomplished by juxtaposing contemporary composer’s works alongside their predecessors’. With the guidance of pre-concert talks, CØDA allows insight into the linear progression of art music, in an attempt to help younger audiences intrinsically connect with new music.

Music education remains a high priority for CØDA. Alongside our regular performances, we are working to introduce smaller educational concerts, provided free for all students. We are particularly interested in bringing contemporary music to elementary and middle school students. By allowing younger children the opportunity to hear and understand the expressive capabilities of contemporary music, we are opening the doors to the next generation of music makers.
